2019 Library Survey
The library is partnering with the national research organization Ithaka S+R to survey all UC Davis Academic Senate faculty, Academic Federation personnel, post-docs, graduate and professional students. Your answers will give the library valuable insight into the current practices, needs and wants of our teaching and research users and allow us to create and improve services to best support research, teaching, and learning at UC Davis, now and into the future.

For each completed survey, the UC Davis Library will donate $2 to The Pantry with a goal of reaching $1,600. Each completed survey that includes an email address will be entered into a drawing for 10 $75 UC Davis Stores gift cards (5 will be awarded to faculty/researchers and 5 will be for graduate/professional students).
What is the UC Davis Library Survey?

Your answers will give the library valuable insight into the current practices, needs, and wants of our teaching and research users and allow us to create and improve services to best meet your needs.
Are other UC libraries surveying their faculty?
Yes. UC Berkeley has recently joined with Ithaka to survey their faculty.
What cohorts will the survey include?
The entire Academic Senate and Academic Federation series, plus post-docs are included in the faculty survey. All graduate and professional students are included in the graduate student survey.
How will I know I have been invited to complete the survey?
You will receive an email invitation. It is important that you not share your link with others, as each link can only be used once.
What if I accidentally delete the email?
If you have not completed the survey, you will be sent a reminder email that includes your personal link to the survey. If you did not receive the email invitation and are part of one of the cohorts described above, you can request the link by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
I can’t get the survey to display, what do I do?
Visit the IT Knowledge Base site for allowing browser pop-ups for UC Davis websites. If this doesn’t work, please email the survey group at email@example.com.
How long will it take to complete the survey?
The survey will take about 25 minutes to complete.
What if I cannot complete the survey in one sitting, or accidentally close my browser?
If you need to exit the survey before completing it, you will be able to restart where you left off by clicking on the link in the invitation email you received.
How long will the survey run?
The survey will launch at 8 a.m. on April 15th and close at midnight on May 15th.

How does this relate to the faculty survey done in 2014?
Some of you may recall the previous Ithaka Senate and Federation Library Survey, conducted in Fall 2014. This is the next version of that survey.
How will the survey data be used?
The UC Davis Library will use survey results for long-range strategic planning and to guide the library’s provision of information resources and services, especially in the areas of: essential elements of the research life-cycle, including how research practices and methods may be changing, research dissemination practices and needs, and preservation and management of research data and primary sources; instructional practices and needs, covering undergraduates as well as graduate students, student research skills, and online learning; how scholars discover and access needed information resources for their teaching and research, including the changes to formats and collections; and the evolving role of the academic library.
In addition, UC Davis’ results will contribute to national trend reporting by Ithaka S+R.
How will my privacy be protected?
There are no risks associated with participation in this study, and participation is voluntary. You may refuse to participate or discontinue participation at any time. All information we receive in anonymized and will be kept strictly confidential and seen by authorized personnel of Ithaka S+R and the UC Davis Library. Data gathered from the study will be summarized in aggregate, excluding all personally identifiable unique identifiers, but will contain demographic information such as age, discipline, and title.

Presentation of Results
The survey result dataset will be delivered to the library soon after the survey ends; findings and analyses themselves will be widely shared and discussed with the UC Davis community.
