Shields Library Lobby - Special Collections
May 10, 2019 marks the sesquicentennial of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. This exhibit celebrates the anniversary with highlights from Special Collections holdings. Learn how the railroad influenced the selection of Davis as the home of the University Farm (now UC Davis), the growth of California agriculture, and the promotion of the state to tourists and settlers. See a selection of railroad images from the Eastman’s Originals Collection. View a 1936 film containing footage of workers packing pears into lug boxes and the boxes being loaded onto the Pacific Fruit Express.
Visitors are welcome to take home a free souvenir postcard of the Southern Pacific Depot (Davis train station) as it appeared in 1944.
