Electronic Resources Specialist

Under supervision of the Electronic Resources Librarian, the ELECTRONIC RESOURCES SPECIALIST supports UCD’s virtual library users through the management of the library’s electronic resources lifecycle. This position leads implementation of resources and integrated systems including processes to acquire, provide access, administer, support, monitor, and evaluate. Using professional standards and specialized expertise, this role facilitates timely delivery and continuous access to electronic content.
Work involves a high level of professional analysis and initiative to resolve complex issues, encompassing overarching factors of fiscal, contractual, descriptive and technological functionality, and normalizes information for systems interoperability. This role will require an expert level of understanding regarding the electronic resources lifecycle management and its interconnectivity with complementary dynamic management systems. This also incorporates the ability to apply appropriate library information standards to enhance data exchange. Responsibilities include leadership supporting electronic resources evaluation, implementation, administration and documentation.
The ELECTRONIC RESOURCES SPECIALIST will facilitate a data driven process for continuous monitoring and consistent reporting. Responsibilities include implementing and administering data analysis processes to monitor dynamic change, enhance resources, optimize workflows and investigate data and systems integrity. Collaborating in cross-departmental projects will be a component of applying data-driven findings to support decision making, establish goals, set priorities and administer policies with appropriate library colleagues. Other outcomes include writing and communicating operational guidelines to produce documentation for shared understanding.
Taking proactive initiative, this position will address a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, given continual change such as ILS software, vendors’ products, purchase models and access methods. In support of UCD’s unique professional programs, this work will include creating and implementing strategies to enhance the highly specialized and non-standardized electronic resources in support of scholarship and research.
Serving as a liaison, the ELECTRONIC RESOURCES SPECIALIST supports reconciling collection holdings with consortia stakeholders and maintaining vendor communication for the exchange of technical information and database systems changes. In support of consistent communication outreach to stakeholders, this will involve coordinating practices and workflows to address these electronic resources updates.
This position is expected to maintain currency in the areas of electronic resource management, including software tools and national standards. The Library supports participation in conferences and improvement opportunities that will contribute to both individual professional learning and the mission and goals of the Library and the University.
