Literature and Poetry Readings This Week at Shields

The library is pleased to present two literary readings this week. Both will be held at Shields in Room 205 and are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, April 24, from 6 – 7 pm

Nayomi Munaweera

We are grateful to our partners in Middle East/South Asia Studies and the English Department’s Creative Writing Program for bringing Nayomi Munaweera here to speak. Munaweera is a Sri Lankan-American novelist and author of the novels What Lies Between Us (2016) and Island of a Thousand Mirrors (2014). She is a recipient of the the Commonwealth Book Prize for the Asian Region and Man Asian Literary Prize.

Thursday, April 26, from 7 – 8 pm

Andy Jones

We’re delighted to be hosting this poetry reading by Andy Jones, poet laureate of the City of Davis since 2015 and author of the poetry books In the Almond Orchard: Coming Home from War (2016) and Split Stock (2006). Currently a lecturer with the University Writing Program, he has taught writing and literature at UC Davis for over 25 years. (And if you’re thinking, isn’t that the guy who hosts trivia night at De Vere’s? Yes, he does that, too.)
