PPIE Centennial: The Jewel City frontispiece

Here is this week’s post in our Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) centennial series. This image is the frontispiece from The Jewel City: Its Planning and Achievement; Its Architecture, Sculpture, Symbolism, and Music; Its Gardens, Palaces, and Exhibits by Ben Macomber. The caption reads: “Looking through the ARCH OF THE SETTING SUN into the COURT OF THE UNIVERSE. On the right is DuMond’s mural, CALIFORNIA WELCOMING THE EAST. The soft, warm colors of the palaces, and their wealth of sculpture and mural painting are the especial distinction of this Exposition.”
