Three things to know this Open Access Week

It’s Open Access Week! In the spirit of increasing the accessibility, reusability, and global impact of scholarship here at Davis, here are three things to know about Open Access on campus.

1. Most articles authored at UC can be made open.

Thanks to UC’s Open Access Policies, campus authors are empowered to freely share most of their journal articles in eScholarship, the university repository. It’s a more reliable way to share than ResearchGate, available when other options are closed. So, what’s stopping you? Learn more about the policies today.

2. The library can help with OA fees.

Publishing in fully Open Access outlets is the best way to make your scholarship truly shareable. While some OA publishers charge fees to cover the cost of publication, the library’s Open Access Fund has resources available to help you go OA.

3. OA is for books, too.

Open Access scholarly books look just like any other. You can find them in library stacks, pick them up, flip through the pages. They’re carefully edited, peer reviewed, and published by the same presses. But they’re also freely shareable online, available to download, search, and send to colleagues around the world. UC Davis is participating in a new initiative to make sure our campus authors have the option to publish open access monographs. Watch this space for more news soon!
