Peter J. Shields Lobby — Special Collections Display Cases
Current through Winter Quarter 2014
This exhibit showcases a number of resources, primarily from Special Collections, which UC Davis is currently using as part of a university-wide initiative on tsiology (the study of tea). Most of the books in this exhibit are from the Noling Collection, also known as the Hurty-Peck Beverage Library. The other books displayed here are from another set of holdings in Special Collections—the Chinese and East Asian cookbook section. In addition to the treasure trove of books, we are very lucky to have a few beautiful tea artifacts on display as well. In the center of the display is a set of two poems on scrolls written by visiting tsiologist Wing-Chi Ip, a renowned expert on tea and owner of the Lock Cha Tea House in Hong Kong. Special Collections is an integral part of UC Davis’s push to learn more about tea–its history, its chemical properties and effect on health, and the rich culture which surrounds it. Please consider, as you contemplate these enticing tomes and beautiful tea objets dâart, the links they create from our past to our future.
