BIBFLOW was a two-year project (2013-2016) that investigated the future of library technical services, i.e., cataloging and related workflows, in light of modern technology infrastructure such as the Web and new data models and formats such as Resource Description and Access (RDA) and BIBFRAME, the new encoding and exchange format in development by the Library of Congress.

The following workflow represents the current work process in place at the UC Davis library when cataloging an original book (not rare book) using OCLC connection client. It is one of the work functions that will be converted to a native Linked Data workflow as part of the project. Actors Librarians - Highest level of experience. Cataloging Specialist - Medium level of experience. Copy Cataloger - Lowest level of experience. Supporting systems and tools (e.g. harvesting daemon). Description User Story: ''As a library cataloger I need to create a set of metadata elements in OCLC for a published book that will describe it both for managing it in the Library’s collection and making it discoverable (status and existence) by Library patrons in OCLC and replicate that bibliographic record in the local integrated library system.''
